Something interesting enough that Alex has ventured out of his room to investigate it. And he isn't the only one: a crowd has gathered in the entrance hall, some people even pressed against or tapping on the door itself.

Those people, in Alex's humble opinion, are dumb. He's at the fringe of the crowd, back to the wall, out of the immediate line of fire should horrible death suddenly come bursting out of the new doorway. And he's armed, both literally and with camera wasps. Much more sensible.
