[The message is pretty elementary to hack. There's nothing worth hiding in it; Alex just doesn't feel like spamming the entire network. Not that he really expects any of this to get through.]

[Yes, she did receive your 537 messages in intelligible English, but she's not going to get her hopes up just yet.]

...

Alex?

[Oh man, is that an intelligible feed? No foreign languages? No inexplicable government broadcasts? Nothing was spoken backwards?

He flicks his own video feed on, visibly relieved.]

Finally. How're -- hey, your arm! When did that happen?

[The sling is off! That gets a surprised look, and then (I hope you're sitting down) an honest-to-god smile.]

[Did... did her message make it? Okay then, let's try some optimism and a few more words. Wait, arm? But that was-]

[Oh my my.]

It's been a while, hasn't it?

[identity profile] 40410.livejournal.com 2010-07-14 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
A week?

[Aaand his alloted smile-time has expired. Hope you enjoyed it, folks.]

...Crap, it has. I haven't seen you since... [He glances off-camera, briefly, at the bag of CDs that now contain his film. It's a psychological memory aid, a half-logicless habit, like chewing your pencil during an exam.] ...the end of that telling-the-truth event.

[He glances over her shoulder, trying to spot the security cameras she put on her wall. Here is an important question:] Are you safe?

[identity profile] echo-of-utopia.livejournal.com 2010-07-15 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Yes, of course.

My security system was on at all times. [Except for when I went out and couldn't be bothered with the bot.] There was no alarm at any time and I made sure to watch the material every morning.

I'm quite sure that at this point he is either unaware of my attempt to contact him or indifferent towards it. [I should know, I even checked the forest twice and there was nothing!] Still, I shall keep recording. [For a while longer, at least.]

[Gosh, that truth event. That sure was a lot of fun, wasn't it?]

And how are you, Alex?

[identity profile] 40410.livejournal.com 2010-07-16 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[...Alex would not be impressed with the details in those there narration boxes, young lady. :| As it is, though, he's relieved (and maybe a little surprised, after her lacklustre reaction to the idea) that she's been so diligent.

Then again--]

Good. Don't get lax.

[--the Operator struck him after four years of radio silence. A week is nothing. And on that cheerful note, he says seriously:]

I'm... there were a couple of things I wanted to ask you, actually.

[identity profile] echo-of-utopia.livejournal.com 2010-07-16 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[- insert the sentiment of blergh in more ICly words here -]

Please, go ahead. Or would you rather talk in person?

[identity profile] 40410.livejournal.com 2010-07-16 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[It only takes a moment's consideration. He still wants the plasmid to be his secret weapon, in case that's the edge he needs.]

In person. The comms are only so secure.

[A thought occurs:]

...Did you ever get my note?

[identity profile] echo-of-utopia.livejournal.com 2010-07-16 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
A note? I'm afraid not.

[ Or could he...? *frown* ]

Unless you made a request for eggs, milk, laundry detergent and tangerines?

[identity profile] 40410.livejournal.com 2010-07-16 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I... no? [Why would he even.] It was about meeting up, I stuck it on your door. Unless the event made it catch fire or something. It really didn't want me talking to people.

[identity profile] echo-of-utopia.livejournal.com 2010-07-16 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[ To bake tangerine pie and do his laundry? Duuuuuuuurh. ]

No, it really did not. Evidently it turned your note into a grocery list.

[ But anyway... ]

I still have some work to finish, but I can be upstairs in about an hour, if that is all right with you?

He doesn't know how to answer.

He doesn't know if the churning in his stomach is anger or shame.]

[identity profile] 40410.livejournal.com 2010-07-16 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, that's his own fault, isn't it?]

Are you hacking my messages?

[You know what doesn't communicate well through text? Anger.]

[text]

[identity profile] timisnotme.livejournal.com 2010-07-16 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)

Yes.

Bored.

[identity profile] timisnotme.livejournal.com 2010-07-16 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Why not?

*what is this privacy you speak of?*

[text]

[identity profile] 40410.livejournal.com 2010-07-16 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I make them private for a reason. Have you hacked any before?

[Alex's mind flashes through his other locked conversations, the stuff he's said that he doesn't want everyone to know.]

No. Bored now. Waiting.

[Wait.

He backspaces, erasing that.

Waiting.

A long pause. He knows what J's said about Tim when he's like this. What he types next, he does slowly, so that the letters appear reluctantly one by one.]

Waiting for what?

Suddenly, powerfully, he gets the urge to turn off the comm'. But he'd never forgive himself if he ran at just the mention of the name.]

Why are you waiting for him?

[identity profile] timisnotme.livejournal.com 2010-07-17 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Instructed. Waiting.

Not near.

*That last little bit should cheer up Alex, because it's actually cheering up Masky quite a bit.*
